Minutes of 11/28/89 Meeting
Michael Chiavario, YNA Acting President, called the meeting to order, and introduced Jack Choate, from the City's Public Works Engineering Department, who came to get feedback from the neighborhood about the proposed traffic changes to Humboldt to prevent the use of Humboldt as an arterial between Lakeway and Samish. Mr. Choate first discussed a traffic study which showed that there is 4-5 times as much traffic on Humboldt as other streets in the area, and explained the two alternatives the city has come up with to redirect the traffic. There was an immediate objection to both alternatives on the grounds that they would simply shift the traffic to Grant Street rather than eliminate the problem. Mr. Choate agreed, and asked for suggestions, many of which were offered. After much discussion, a concensus was reached that any solution must involve both Grant and Humboldt Streets and that neighborhood residents are more concerned about safety and traffic than making their own access to their homes slightly more difficult. Mr. Choate agreed to convey those concerns to the City and asked that any ideas be sent to him at the Public Works Dept.
Wally Dunn voiced concerns about the Ellis strip becoming zoned for commercial uses. Other concerns were raised about pedestrians attempting to cross Lakeway discussion about possible construction of overpass. The Rock Hill and Environmental committees had no news. The chairperson of the phone tree committee reports that block captains are still needed. The chairperson of the social committee expressed an interest in a neighborhood Christmas event. Money was collected to cover the cost of filing an environmental impact statement for Rock Hill. Mary Mullen agreed to open a bank account for the extra money collected. The December meeting was changed to Jan. 4 due to the holidays. Officers will be elected at the meeting at the end of January.
